"Holy" from the Hebrew word qadosh, literally means "to be set apart for a special purpose", a clean and pure purpose.-
http://www.ancient-hebrew.org/27_holy.html
"Spirit" from the Hebrew word ruach, occurs nearly 400 times.
Its base meaning is "moving air" — whether in the form of breath, a breeze or violent storm winds. (Thus our reference to it as God's ACTIVE force)- http://www.hebrew-streams.org/works/spirit/ruachpneuma.html
In those ancient times, no one knew of electricity, magnetism, radiation- and all the many different types of energy we know of today- so he referred to the ONE type of unseen energy they ALL knew well; the wind, and our breath- to help them understand the unseen forces at work; God's power, his form, angels, demons, and THEIR form, our very life, our mind- as well as LITERAL breath or wind.
The "holy spirit", in Judaism, generally refers to the divine aspect of prophecy and wisdom, to the divine force, power, and influence of the Only True God, over the universe or over his creatures, in given contexts.
It means the same to us Jehovah's Witnesses, the common phrase used is "active force", since it is Jehovah in ACTION, doing things with and through that Power.
In Stark Contrast, listen to how it is perverted by CHURCHianity: "The Holy Ghost (they add Caps to make it look like one of their Gods) is the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity. Though really distinct, as a Person, from the Father and the Son, He is consubstantial with Them; being God like Them (notice they don't say "He" ), He possesses with Them one and the same Divine Essence or Nature. He proceeds, not by way of generation, but by way of spiration [figure out what THAT is supposed to mean!], from the Father and the Son together, as from a single principle."- Catholic Encyclopedia
The glaring difference between the original view and the Church's fabricated- and EXTREMELY opposite one- should be obvious...BUT- since fabricated by the Catholic Church to seize upon the superstitious minds of the highly superstitious peoples of the Roman Empire- and all its religions, it has been EMBEDDED into the masses, blinding them from knowing God.
Interestingly, churches appear to now be embarrassed by the term "Ghost" and now use only "spirit"...about time! But the Dogma still remains; a Nameless being, never seen in human form as Jesus was, as angels were, and as God is in the symbolic visions! God manifested it, the few times it was seen, as a glowing light in various shapes- such as at Jesus baptism- a glowing light like the shape of a dove, and the 'tongues' of flame at Pentecost.
Never, ANYWHERE in the Bible does anyone pray to it, or serve it. God splits it into portions, pours it out, fills people with it, and thus speaks and acts THROUGH it; that's why Jesus never thought of it just as the energy, the power it IS- but instead always thought of the One who was acting THROUGH it. Think of it as the holy breath of God.
God;s ancient servants were well aware of how we all live by MEANS of it in our bodies~
Isa 42:5- Thus saith God Jehovah, he that created the heavens, and stretched them forth; he that spread abroad the
earth and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein.-ASV
Job 27:3- All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils; 4- My lips shall not speak wickedness, nor my tongue utter deceit. Not even the most fanatical Trinitarian will say 'the Holy Ghost' was in Job's nose!
Can you POSSIBLY imagine THIS happening to a Ghost-God????~
Jehovah Himself manifested His holy spirit in ways his servants could easily perceive what it IS~
Finally we have the account of Jesus and his God and Father's holy spirit (breath/wind)- God (not ONE of 'Them) speaking to His son being baptized, and anointing (appointing) and empowering him with His unseen power - the holy spirit!
Churchianity has perverted this, too, into THIS~
Churchianity has perverted this, too, into THIS~
BOTTOM LINE: Either believe your church, or believe the inspired scriptures. You can't do both!
